COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Wichita State (2-5) dropped its second game of the day as #25 Texas A&M (6-3) defeated the Shockers, 7-1, in the night game of the 2011 Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas.
Senior, Kiersten Dixon, led the Shockers and went 2-for-3 at the plate with one double and a run scored. Sophomore Hayley Temple also had a nice night at the plate for WSU. She went 1-for-2 with one hit, one RBI, one walk, and a sacrifice fly.
Katie Armagost picked up the loss for the Shockers in the circle. She went 3.1 innings while giving up five hits and six runs. She also recorded three strikeouts. Sloan Anderson came in to the game and pitched 2.2 innings. She gave up one run off of one hit and picked up two strikeouts.
Lindsey Sisk improved to 3-1 on the season going 7.0 innings and only allowing one Shocker run off of seven hits. Sisk picked up six strikeouts on the evening.
Texas A&M took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off of a Rhiannon Kliesing home run over the left field fence. It was her second home run of the day, and fifth on the season. Senior Heather Gerritse saved the Shockers' a run as she caught Natalie Villarreal stealing second on the previous play.
The Aggies added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning off of one hit and one error. There were three walks in the inning that allowed sophomore catcher Meagan May to double to right field and bring home all three runs. A&M claimed a 4-0 lead at the end of the inning.
Texas A&M put two more runs on the board in the fourth inning. Amber Garza singled up the middle and then Cassie Tysarcyk hit a home run over the left field fence to make it a 6-0 game. The Aggies pushed it out to a 7-0 lead after Emily Albus reached by an error out in left field and came around to score on a Brittany Walker single up the middle.
The Shockers got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning and made it a 7-1 game. Kiersten Dixn kicked-off the inning with a double to left center and then Hilary Fort came in and singled up the middle as a pinch hitter. Hayley Temple hit a sacrific fly out to left field to bring home Dixon to give the Shockers their first run of the game.
Wichita State returns to action Saturday as they take on UT-Arlington for the second time with the first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.

Mavericks Rope Shockers, 8-3, In Game One
COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Wichita State (2-4) fell, 8-3, to UT-Arlington (3-3) in the first game of the 2011 Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas.
Meghan Boston led the Shockers with two RBI off
of one hit in two attempts. Hayley Temple went 1-for-2 with one hit and
one walk. Senior Jamie Hull went 1-for-3 with one RBI for the Shockers.
Freshman pitcher,
Callie Collins, picked up the win for UTA. She went 6.2 innings,
allowed two hits, gave up two runs, and picked up eight strikeouts.
Brianna Smet got the
loss in the circle for the Shockers. She went 3.2 innings, while giving
up seven runs off of seven hits. Smet also picked up four strikeouts.
Freshman Sloan Anderson came into the game in relief and recorded four
strikeouts in 3.1 innings, while only giving up one run off of one hit.
UT-Arlington came
out early and got on the scoreboard first. Stephanie Gonzalez led off
the first inning with a single to left field. She proceeded to steal
second base and Charne Office walked before Rebecca Collom doubled down
the left field line to bring home Gonzalez. The Mavericks scored their
second run of the inning when Office came home off of a Taylor Zink
bunt. UTA held onto a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
The Shockers evened
the score, 2-2, in the bottom of the second inning with two hits and one
error. Holly Eckert led off the inning with a walk and Brittney Osborn
followed that up with a fielder's choice to second base. Eckert reached
second safely by an error on the second baseman. Hayley Temple moved
the runners over to second and third with a single to right center, and
Meghan Boston scored both Eckert and Osborn with a double to the fence
in left center.
The Mavericks loaded
the bases in the top of the fourth inning off of two hits and one
walk. Office hit a grand slam over the left field fence to make the
score 6-2. Alexis Cantu followed that up and made it a 7-2 game with a
home run of her own.
UTA added one more run to the scoreboard in the fifth inning off of one hit to make the score 8-2 in favor of the Mavericks.
The Shockers loaded
the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning with three straight walks
to Boston, Erin Carney, and Kiersten Dixon. Jamie Hull singled to left
field to bring home Boston and make the score 8-3.
The Shockers return to action this evening when they take on #25 Texas A&M at approximately 5:00 p.m.
