Peoria, Ill. -- Chynna Turner recorded her
second-straight double-double and the Wichita State women's basketball team
pulled away at Bradley, 71-58. The Shockers are now 2-0 in the MVC for
the first time since 1998-99.
Turner produced another efficient effort on the court,
connecting on all seven field goal attempts and 5-of-7 from the free throw line
to fire off a season-high 19 points. The
junior hauled in 12 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and her fourth
of the season.
The Shockers never trailed in the first half but were
unable to pull away in the second half until late. Bradley's Kelly Frings hit a three-pointer
with 6:18 left in the game to put the Braves on top, 49-48. WSU responded with an 11-2 run, highlighted
by a half-court steal and subsequent three-point play by senior Haleigh
Lankster to seal the victory.
Lankster finished with 15 points - all in the second half
- and Jessica Diamond added 13. Leah
Kassing led Bradley with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
The Shockers improved to 8-5 and have won five-straight
games, all away from Koch Arena (first time in program history). The 2-0 start in Valley play is just the
fifth time in program history for WSU.
The program has started 3-0 just once.
Next up for Wichita State is the team's first home game
in more than a month when Drake comes to Koch Arena Thurs., Jan. 5, at 7:05
p.m.
