Box Score NORMAL, Ill. -- Senior J.T. Durley had a team-high 13 points as the Wichita State University men's basketball team remained unbeaten in Missouri Valley Conference action following a 65-51 win over the Illinois State Redbirds Friday night.
The Shockers improve to 13-2 overall on the season and 4-0 in conference play. ISU falls to 8-7 on the year, 0-4 in the Valley.
Durley led the way for the visiting Shockers with 13 points and five rebounds. Garrett Stutz came off the bench to add 10 counters while Toure' Murry had eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Austin Hill led all scorers with 14 points for Illinois State. Jackie Carmichael and Tony Lewis each had nine points.
Wichita State shot 4-of-8 from behind the arc in the first half to go ahead 37-27. Murry had all eight of his points in the first half while the Houston, Texas native was also able to record a team-best four rebounds.
The Shockers used that momentum in the second half as they shot 55 percent from the field (12-for-22) compared to only 28 percent (9-for-32) for the Redbirds. Durley scored seven of his 13 points in the second frame while also recording two boards and a steal.
WSU was able to dominate the smaller Illinois State lineup in the paint during the second half. The Shockers scored 20 of their 28 points in the paint while the Redbirds were only able to counter with two.
Wichita State will return home on Sunday, Jan. 9, as they host Missouri State. Tip-off is set for 7:35 p.m.
