WICHITA, Kan. -
Wichita State volleyball student-athlete Sarah Waldorf has been named the
Prairie Farms Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the
week of Aug. 23-29.
Now in its 12th year of existence, The Valley's
Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland
Dairies. On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes
for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in
the classroom.
A libero for the
Wichita State volleyball team, Waldorf, a junior from August, Kan., earned most
valuable player honors while leading the Shockers to the championship at the
Nike Invitational in Norman, Okla., on August 27-28. She powered WSU in
victories over Oklahoma (3-0) and Texas-Arlington (3-0) and in a tough loss to
Miami of Florida (3-2).
Waldorf, who has a 3.469 cumulative grade-point average in marketing, averaged
4.91 digs, 0.27 kills, 0.64 assists and 0.18 aces per set in three matches. She
also had a perfect serve reception percentage in a team-high 66 total attempts.
Versus Oklahoma, she compiled 10 digs, a kill and three assists. Against
Miami, she had a match-high and a career-best 26 digs along with a kill, three
assists and a service ace. She followed with a match-high 18 digs, a kill, an
assist and a service ace against UT-Arlington.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the
Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of
3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be
at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and
first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the
academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic
performance for a one-week period.
