Box Score NORMAN, Okla. - Wichita State closed out the Nike
Invitational with a sweep over UT-Arlington.
The Shockers (2-1) won by scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 26-24.
Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 16 kills, while Emily
Adney added 12 kills. Chelsey Feekin had
a team-high 17 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 18 digs.
The Shockers scored the first three points of the first set
including a kill and a block by Sarah McGee.
UTA took a 6-5 lead with back-to-back kills, but another kill and block
by McGee put the Shockers in front 13-9.
A kill by Elizabeth Field gave the Shocks an eight-point lead at 22-14
and WSU won the set 25-14 on a UTA hitting error.
WSU raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second set with two kills
from Emily Adney, one from Camri Zwiesler and a block by Adney and McGee. A kill by Jada Witham increased the lead to 8-3,
but UTA came back to tie it at 10 with a kill.
The Shockers then took control and went up 23-17 on a service ace by
Mary Elizabeth Hooper. UTA pulled to
within 24-22, but the Shockers finished off UTA 25-22.
Back-to-back kills by Amanda Backes gave WSU a 9-5 lead in
the third set. A kill by Zwiesler
increased it to 15-10 and the Shockers continued to lead until a Shocker
hitting error tied the score at 22. The
two teams traded points until kills by Zwiesler and Witham ended the set with a
26-24 win for the Shocks.
WSU is next in action on Sept. 3-4 when the Shocks host
Stephen F. Austin and Portland in the SpringHill Suites Shocker Classic.
