TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Meagan McCurdy held Wichita State (21-30, 10-14) to just two hits as Indiana State (20-31, 5-20) took the series with a 1-0 win on Sunday at Price Field.
For the first time in the series it was INS that jumped out to an early lead. Kim Pierce lined a double down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the first. She would score on a bloop single over a drawn-in infield by Stephanie Robinson.
The Shockers dodged a bullet in the fourth when Lindsey Beisser led off the inning with a double in right center. One batter later, Beisser was called out for interference after hitting shortstop
Sammie Shook while running to third.
WSU starter
Kasha Kolb got Kellie Szablewski to strikeout to end the inning.
McCurdy continued to cruise for the Sycamores. After the second inning she allowed just two runners to reach base, one on a walk and the other on a wild pitch third strike.
McCurdy retired the side in order in the seventh for her ninth win of the season.
Despite allowing just two earned runs in three games, Kolb went 1-2 on the weekend and dropped to 15-18 on the season.
With a 10-14 record in Missouri Valley Conference play, the Shockers have earned the No. 7 seed in next week's State Farm MVC Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. WSU will play the No. 6 seed Drake Bulldogs on Thu., May 13, at 1:30 p.m.
The winner of that game will move on to play the No. 3 seed Creighton Bluejays at 6:30 p.m., also on Thu., May 13.
