TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Wichita State (21-29, 10-13) scored two runs in the eighth inning of game two to salvage a split against Indiana State (19-31, 4-20) on Saturday at Price Field.

Game One

Three Shocker errors led to two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to give Indiana State (19-30, 4-19) a 3-2 comeback win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.

Wichita State (20-29, 9-13) jumped out to an early lead, cashing in on a lead off walk by INS pitcher Lindsey Beisser to Lindsie Mitts. Mitts wasted no time in stealing her 17th base of the season and scored on a bloop single by Heather Gerritse.

Beisser gave the Shockers a chance to blow the game open in the second as the lefty walked the bases loaded only to escape the jam with a strikeout and groundball out.

The Sycamores tied the score in the fourth. Bailey Wittenauer led off the inning with a double to left-center and was lifted for pinch runner Halee Myers. Myers moved to third on a groundball and scored on an Amber Paz single.

WSU reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh. Sammie Shook led off with a walk and moved to third on Mitts' second double of the season. Pinch hitter Brittney Osborn loaded the bases with a walk and Kiersten Dixon put WSU on top with an RBI groundout. But the Shockers could not manage more than just the one run and went to the seventh with a one run lead.

Kasha Kolb got Kellie Szablewski to groundout to start the seventh. But that's when the defense fell apart for the Shockers. Alyssa Doyle reached on an error before Kacy Kestner became Kolb's 10th strikeout victim for the second out of the inning.

Pinch hitter Kim Pierce and Stephanie Robinson each reached on errors to load the bases for Beisser. The pitcher turned a loss into a win with a bloop single to center field that allowed Doyle and Pierce to score.

Kolb took the tough luck loss, going 6.2 innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out 10.

Game Two

An Indiana State error and Kara L'Huillier RBI single helped Wichita State (20-29, 10-13) take game two of the doubleheader, 2-0, at Indiana State (19-31, 4-20).

Pitching ruled game two as starters Meagan McCurdy and Brianna Smet matched each other pitch for pitch.

Smet went a season-high 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and three walks. While the defense committed three errors, Sammie Shook made several spectacular plays at short to keep the game scoreless.

In the fourth INS had the bases loaded an no outs, but Shook caught a line drive and doubled-up the runner at third for two quick outs. A groundout ended that threat.

The Sycamores put runners on first and second with one out in the fifth, but Shook made two diving catches on line drives to preserve the shutout.

WSU stranded at least one runner in every inning but the third and sixth, and neither team pushed a run across through seven innings.

This time it was INS with fielding errors to help out the Shockers. With two outs the Sycamores committed two errors with the second error allowing Kersti Rowan to score and give WSU a 1-0 lead.

L'Huillier followed with a single up the middle to score Kiersten Dixon for a 2-0 lead.

Reliever Kasha Kolb allowed two hits in the bottom half of the inning, but got two fly balls and a strikeout to end the game. The win was her 15th of the season, a new career-best.

The Shockers will look to take the series tomorrow, with a single game beginning at 11 a.m., central time.
