LUBBOCK, Tex. -- Kasha Kolb pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits while Jamie Hull hit a three-run home run as the Wichita State University softball team collected a 7-1 win over Boise State University in the first game of the Texas Tech Tournament.
Wichita State improves to 7-6 on the season while Boise State falls to 2-8.
Kolb pitched seven innings allowing only one run on two hits while striking out 12 Bronco batters to pick up her third win of the season.
Heather Gerritse and Kara L'Huillier each went 3-for-3 from the plate while Jamie Hull had the big hit of the afternoon, a three-run bomb over the left-field fence.
Allie Crump pitched a complete game for BSU, allowing seven runs on 10 hits while walking four in the loss.
The Shockers manufactured a run in the top of the first inning as Rowan led off with a walk, advanced to second on her sixth stolen base of the year, and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kiersten Dixon. Rowan touched home on a single to right-field by L'Huillier.
Dixon finished going 1-for-3 from the plate with three RBI.
Hull provided the fireworks in the top half of the third inning as she connected for her first home run of the season, a three-run laser that stayed inside the left-field fair pole to give the Shockers a 4-0 lead.
Dixon helped put the game out of reach for the Shockers in the sixth as she hit a bases clearing double, driving in Hayley Temple, Holly Eckert and Rowan.
Boise State scratched across a run in the home half of the sixth inning on an infield single by Vanessa Alvarez scoring Ashley Collier.
Sammie Shook finished the game going 1-for-3.
WSU will be back in action tomorrow during the second day of competition at the Texas Tech Tournament. The Shockers will get a rematch with the Broncos at 11 a.m., followed by a 3 p.m., game against Texas Tech.
