Shocks Fall to Wildcats, 8-3

MANHATTAN, Kan. - No. 20 Kansas State defeated Wichita State 8-3 on Tuesday night in non-conference baseball action.

Travis Bennett went 2-for-2 for the Shockers, while Will Baez, Tyler Grimes and Chris O'Brien each drove in a run.  Reliever Grant Muncrief took the loss.

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the second.  KSU scored three runs on four hits and a walk to take a 3-0 lead.

The Shockers threatened in the third by loading the bases with one out, but could not scratch a run across.

WSU tied the score at three with three runs in the sixth.  Cody Lassley reached to lead off the inning on a throwing error by the shortstop, Travis Bennett was hit by a pitch and Johnny Coy walked to load the bases with no outs.  Tyler Grimes was hit by a pitch to drive in a run and Chris O'Brien grounded out to second base to drive in the second run.  A sacrifice fly by Will Baez finished the scoring for the Shockers.

KSU took the lead back in the seventh inning.  Carter Jurica led off with a home run and then Mike Kindel singled in Nick Martini to give KSU a 5-3 lead.  The Shockers had trouble getting the final out of the inning as the Wildcats used two singles, two walks and two Shocker errors to score three more runs to take an 8-3 lead.

The Shockers are next in action on Wed., March 31 against Tabor College.  First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
