KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- University of Missouri at Kansas City game one starting pitcher Anna Sokoik pitched a complete game and went 1-for-2 at the dish while Deanna Friese held the Shockers scoreless through a rain-soaked game two as the Kangaroos improved to 5-13 on the year following a two-game sweep over the Wichita State University softball team Wednesday evening.

Game scores were 2-1 in game one, and 4-0 in game two.  Only five complete innings were played in game two due to rain.

WSU drops to 8-10 on the year.

In game one the Shockers got a strong starting effort from Kasha Kolb but were unable to solve Sokolik.  Sokolik limited the Shockers to one run on five hits over seven innings to pick up her second win of the season.

Sokolik also did her damage from the dish as she led off the third inning with a triple and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Kelly Fischer.

Fischer had two hits in two trips to the plate in game one.

Kolb went six innings for WSU, striking out five batters while allowing only two runs on four hits to pick up the tough luck loss.

Wichita State tied the game in the top of the fifth as Lauren Coleman hit a double to the left-field gap to lead off the inning.  Coleman advanced to third on a Danika Miller sacrifice bunt and then touched home on an RBI single by pinch-hitter Brittney Osborn.

Coleman went 1-for-3 with the run scored for Wichita State.

UMC responded in the home half of the sixth inning as designated player Emily Ott dropped in a single over first base to score Kaelene Curry with the eventual game winning run.

In the second game the 'Roos again jumped out on top first as UMKC plated two runs in the first inning.  UMKC's Kaelene was again at the forefront of the offensive attack as she went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Fischer was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while catcher Lauren Rodrigues had a pair of singles and an RBI in three trips to the plate.

UMKC tallied a run in each of the third and fifth innings to cap the scoring.

Brianna Smet pitched a scoreless inning in relief in game two, allowing only one walk while striking out one.

Miller, Osborn and Hilary Fort each went 1-for-3 from the plate in game two.

The Shockers will finally return to the friendly confines of Wilkins Stadium as WSU will host their first game of the 2010 season on Monday, Mar. 15, when they host Rutgers University for a single game beginning at 5 p.m.
