Wichita State Chosen for Wildcard Weekend TV

ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference has selected the Southern Illinois at Wichita State men's basketball game on Saturday, February 27, to complete the league's Wildcard Weekend on Fox Sports Midwest and Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

The Shockers -- 19-5 overall, winners of seven of their last 10 games and alone in second place in the MVC standings with an 8-4 record -- will entertain Southern Illinois at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan., at noon Central.

The game will air live on Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports Indiana, Fox Sports Kansas City and Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

“We began using the Wildcard process in men's basketball during the 2004-05 campaign,” said MVC
Commissioner Doug Elgin. “The Wildcard Weekend concept enables us to showcase our top teams at an important juncture of the season, and Wichita State is deserving of this additional exposure.”

Using the Wildcard Weekend model, the league — through its television partners ESPN, Fox Sports Midwest, Fox College Sports and Comcast SportsNet Chicago — reserves clearance windows for February and March dates in the fall of each academic year and waits until the midpoint of both the men's and women's basketball seasons to determine its final regular-season telecasts for both genders.

The Wildcard Weekend schedule of games begins on Friday, February 26, when the Creighton women travel to the Drake Knapp Center to meet the Bulldogs in a 7:30 p.m. tilt that will air live on Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports Indiana, Fox Sports Kansas City and Fox College Sports and on tape-delay at 12:30 a.m. Central on February 27 on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

On February 27, the league-leading UNI men will be featured, as the 22nd-ranked Panthers -- 20-2 overall and 11-1 in the league -- will play Illinois State at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in an ESPN2 telecast at 7 p.m. Central.

The Wildcard Weekend concludes with the Illinois State women playing to host to UNI on Sunday, February 28, at 2 p.m. Central. The game will air live on Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports Indiana, Fox Sports Kansas City, Fox College Sports and Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
