Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - Wichita State used another strong offensive
performance to take down Eastern Michigan 11-1 during day two of the South
Alabama Classic.
Clint McKeever went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles and a
home run for the Shockers. Preston
Springer finished 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Starter Jordan Cooper pitched six solid innings and allowed
just one run on six hits and struck out six.
The Eagles got on the board first with a leadoff home run by
Ken Battiston off Shocker starter Jordan Cooper. EMU had another hit in the inning, but Cooper
picked him off at first to end the inning.
WSU didn't waste any time answering the Eagles. Will Baez and Erik Harbutz led off the inning
with walks and Preston Springer drove in Baez with a hard hit single to
centerfield. A one-out double to right
field by Clint McKeever scored Harbutz and Springer to give the Shocks a 3-1
lead.
Tyler Grimes led off the second inning with a hit by pitch,
stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a two-out single
by Harbutz to increase the Shocker lead to 4-1.
The Shocks tacked on three more runs in the fifth
inning. Springer and Travis Bennett led
off the inning with back-to-back singles and McKeever hit his second two-run double
of the game to give WSU a 6-1 advantage.
McKeever advanced to third on a fly out by Ryan Jones and scored on a
groundout by Chris O'Brien to make the score 7-1.
WSU increased the lead to 11-1 with four runs in the sixth
inning. Kevin Hall led off with a single
up the middle for his first hit of the season.
He stole second and third and scored on a Baez single. Baez then stole second and third and scored
on a double by Springer to make the score 9-1.
Springer would score on a groundout by Bennett and McKeever finished the
scoring with a bomb to left field.
The Shockers are next in action on Sun., Feb. 28 against
host South Alabama. First pitch is
scheduled for noon.
