SAN DIEGO - No. 17 San Diego State continued its 18-game home win streak against non-conference opponents Saturday night, as the Shocks fell to the Aztecs, 83-69.
David Kyles paced the Shockers with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field, including 4-for-5 from behind the arc. Toure' Murry also reached double figures for WSU pitching in 11 points and four assists. Gabe Blair lead the Shocks on the glass with five rebounds.
San Diego State placed four in double figures with Billy White leading the way for the Aztecs with 24 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the field. Kawhi Leonard (16 points), D.J. Gay (14 points), and Malcolm Thomas (12 points) also reached double figures for SDSU.
The Shockers were outrebounded for the first time this season as the Aztecs edged WSU, 36-27, on the glass. The game was part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Conference Challenge.
Despite early foul trouble and turnovers, the
Shocks were able to hang with the Aztecs in the first half. San Diego State
took a 37-36 lead into halftime after outrebounding WSU. The Shocks
were lead by Kyles with 11 points on 3-for-3 shooting from behind the arc.
Wichita State went on a run early in the second half to keep the game close with the Aztecs. Murry scored six straight points and gave the Shocks a 47-46 lead with 14:43 left to play, but that would be the last lead Wichita State would ever hold in the game.
San Diego State scored the next 14 points in a span of a little over one minute to go ahead 60-47. WSU went two and a half minutes without scoring before Kyles knocked down another 3-pointer to cut the lead down to 67-50.
The Shockers play four of the next five games at home beginning with Nicholls State, 7:05 p.m., Fri., Dec. 10. THe Shockers play again on Dec. 13 against Alabama A&M before travelling to play LSU in Bossier City, La., in the third game of that series.
