Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The
Wichita State Shockers defeated the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 71-49 in front of
a crowd of 10,173 at Charles Koch Arena Monday night.
Junior Toure' Murry had a season high 20 points with four rebounds
and four assists for the Shockers and Graham Hatch added his season high of 16
points for WSU.
Alabama A&M was led by Cornelius Hester who had 17
points for the Bulldogs.
Murry's first eight points helped the Shockers take a 13-9
lead going into the first media timeout at 15:14. Alabama A&M used hot shooting to battle back to a 19-19
tie after a Cornelius Hester jumper with 12:18 left in the first half.
Alabama A&M's bench outscored the Shockers bench 16-6 in
the first half to keep the Bulldogs close going into the break with WSU leading
38-35.
The Shockers were led at halftime by Murry's 12 points and Hatch
added nine points. Murry battled foul trouble in the first half and the
Shockers struggled to protect the ball as the Bulldogs forced nine turnovers.
An 11-5 run to start the second half with seven points from
Hatch pushed the Shockers lead to 49-39 and the Shockers never looked back.
With a 46-25 rebounding margin over A&M it marked the 82nd
time out of 109 games that the Shockers have outrebounded the opposition in the
Gregg Marshall era. Senior Aaron
Ellis led the Shockers with nine rebounds.
WSU held the Alabama A&M bench to two points in the
second half. Wichita State had a
season high 20 turnovers.
The Shockers will travel to Bossier City, La. to take on the
Louisiana State Tigers of the Southeastern Conference on Sat., Dec. 18 with
tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
