Box Score LAHAINA, Hawaii - David Kyles posted 19 points and seven rebounds to lead
Wichita State in a 79-58 win against Division II Chaminade Tuesday in the EA
Sports Maui Invitational.
J.T. Durley scored 16 points and Toure' Murry added 11
points for the Shockers. Garrett Stutz finished with seven rebounds, as Wichita
State gained a 39-20 edge in rebounding. The Shockers improved to 2-1 overall with the win at the Lahaina Civic Center.
Steven Bennett and Chris Curtis each scored 13 points to
lead Chaminade (3-2).
The Shockers jumped out to a 19-4 lead in the first half,
capping a 12-0 run with a 3-pointer from Ben Smith, assisted by Demetric
Williams.
A 3-pointer from Joe Ragland, assisted by Stutz, gave
Wichita State a 33-16 lead with 4:08 left in the half.
The Shockers took a 37-33 lead into halftime, led by nine
points from both Durley and Kyles. Kyles also pulled down five rebounds in the
half, as the Shockers outrebounded Chaminade, 21-10.
A dunk by Kyles following an offensive rebound off a missed
Shocker 3-pointer gave Wichita State a 41-24 lead early in the second half.
Chaminade answered later in the game with a 12-3 run that
included three 3-pointers to cut Wichita State's lead to, 51-44.
The Shockers went on to outscore Chaminade, 25-10, in the
final nine minutes.
The Shockers next play at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against
Oklahoma or Virginia.
