Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State (21-14, 7-2) used three home runs and a strong effort from starter Tim Clubb to defeat Wichita State (20-16, 5-3), 8-2, in the series opener at Hammons Field Friday evening.

Clint McKeever, Mitch Caster and Cody Lassley posted the only hits on the night for WSU. MSU's Kevin Medrano went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Bears offensively.

The Shockers got on the board first with a two-out RBI single by Clint McKeever that brought home Will Baez to give WSU a quick 1-0 lead.

It didn't take long for the Bears to respond as Aaron Conway took the first pitch from Shocker starter Tim Kelley (3-3) out of the park, tying the game at 1-1.

Kelley settled in until the fourth when Kevin Medrano led the inning off with a single and came home on the second home run of the night, courtesy Ben Carlson, giving the Bears a 3-1 edge after four.

The Shockers went down in order in the fifth, and the Bears added to their lead in the bottom of the frame, getting back-to-back doubles and a Medrano home run to extend the advantage to 6-1, chasing Kelley from the game.

WSU's Friday night starter went just 4.2 innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits, five of which went for extra bases.

Missouri State's Tim Clubb (4-2) got stronger as the night went on, allowing just two hits after the first inning and a total of three in the complete-game win. Clubb struck out five and walked two on the night.

The Bears added another run in both the sixth and the eighth before the Shockers got a two-out double from Lassley in the ninth that brought home Bret Bascue and provided the final margin.

Game two of the series will be tomorrow at 2 p.m., at Hammons Field. Kansas 22 will air the game live.
