4/14/2009 10:45:00 PM

Box Score MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kansas State (27-9) scored seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back as the Wildcats defeated the Wichita State baseball team (20-14), 13-5, Tuesday evening at Tointon Stadium.

The game marks the first of two contests between the schools in as many days, with the second game scheduled between the Shockers and Wildcats at 7 p.m., Wednesday night at Eck Stadium.

Will Baez led the Shocker offense with a 3-for-3 night, driving in one and scoring one as well. Clint McKeever and Bret Bascue each posted two hits. Tyler Grimes drove in a run with a solo home run on the third pitch of the game, but KSU then reeled off eight unanswered runs to put the game out of reach.

WSU put up two runs in the sixth thanks to a Bascue RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Baez.

Cameron Maldonado (1-1) took the loss for the Shockers, giving up seven runs in just an inning of work.

The Shocks loaded the bases, starting the ninth with three-straight singles, but Cody Lassley hit into a double play that scored Taylor Gilmore, but ended WSU's threat.

Evan Marshall (1-2) picked up the win for the Wildcats, working two-thirds of an inning of relief.
