Huskers End Shocks' Rally, 4-3

WICHITA -- The Shockers' rally fell short as they fell to the Huskers of Nebraska, 4-3, on a sunny, but windy, afternoon at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

After falling behind 3-0, the Shockers stormed back to tie the match using three-straight singles victories in the No. 6, 5 and 1 singles positions before coming down to the No. 3 singles match. Fittingly, the final and decisive match of the afternoon went all three sets and saw two tiebreakers. Despite a resilient effort by Stephanie Dalmacio, she fell to Jana Albers, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (3).

After recording the doubles point, Nebraska added to their lead when Wiveca Swarting defeated Florentina Hanisch in the No. 4 singles spot, 6-2, 6-3. Mary Weatherholt followed that up with another victory against Lutfiana Budiharto, 6-4, 6-1, to take a commanding 3-0 lead before the Shockers rallied to life. Lenore Lazaroiu sparked the Shockers with a win over Jennifer Holmberg in the No. 6 position, 6-4, 7-6 (2). Anna Egorova followed her lead with the biggest comeback of the afternoon. After falling in the first set, Egorova downed Madeleine Geibert in No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5. Torrie Browning tied the match when she defeated Stephanie Evans, 6-4, 7-5, which paved the way for the crucial No. 3 singles match.

Nebraska took the early lead with the doubles point. The Huskers' No. 3 tandem of Mary Weatherholt and Maria Ring struck first when they defeated Florentina Hanisch and Laryssa Ferreira, 8-4. The Shockers bounced back with an 8-4 victory from Lutfiana Budiharto and Lenore Lazaroiu over Nebraska's Wiveca Swarting and Jennifer Holmberg to move the deciding match to the No. 1 duo. Madeleine Geibert and Jana Albers made the decision in the Huskers' favor by downing Anna Egorova and Stephanie Dalmacio,
8-6.

No. 75 Nebraska moved to 8-0 on the season while No. 66 Wichita State fell to 8-2. The Shockers travel to Penn State for their next match on Feb. 7.
