WICHITA, Kan. -- The Wichita State women's team notched its fourth conference win of the season Sunday, defeating Illinois State 6-1 in the last of a three-match weekend road swing.
Stephanie Dalmacio opened play for the Shockers with a three-set win over Illinois State's Katri Miller, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 match. Anna Egorova followed with a three-set victory of her own, defeating Veronique Parque-Bedard 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the No 3 match, while Lenore Lazaroiu defeated Redbird foe Carolyne Parent, 6-4, 6-1 in the No 4 match. The No. 5 match went to WSU's Torrie Browning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 over Tanja Hrovatic, while Laryssa Ferreira dispatched of Katie O'Riley, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 match.
Florentina Hanisch suffered the Shockers' only setback of the season, dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Illinois State's Julia Zubkova in the No 2 match.
The Shockers split the two doubles matches that were played in the match. Anna Egorova and Lenore Lazaroiu defeated Carolyne Parent and Julia Zubkova, 8-1, in the No. 2 match, while Torrie Browning and Florentina Hanisch dropped an 8-7 (7-5) decision to Katie O'Riley and Tanja Hrovatic in the No. 3 match. The split was settled by a forfeit in the No. 1 match.
With the win, the Shockers improve to 11-7 on the season, and 4-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Wichita State returns to action April 18 with a trip to Creighton, before hosting its final home matches of the season April 20-21. WSU takes on Northern Iowa on April 20, before hosting Drake on April 21. Both matches are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
