MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The No. 33 Wichita State women's tennis team dropped its second match of the season in a 5-2 loss to Kansas State Tuesday night inside historic Ahearn Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats won the doubles point to open play by taking two of three doubles matches from the Shockers. WSU's No. 1 doubles tandem of Anna Egorova/Lenore Lazaroiu picked up the Shockers' only doubles win with an 8-2 dispatching of KSU's Katarina Kudlackova/Olga Kimova, while the Wildcats took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles contests. At No. 2 doubles, Shockers Stephanie Dalmacio/Laryssa Ferreira suffered an 8-6 setback to KSU's Viviana Yrureta/Antea Hulje, while Torrie Browning/Florentina Hanisch were defeated in an 8-4 contest by KSU's Vanessa Cottin/Pauline Guemas.

In singles play, the Wildcats took the top five singles matches, with the Shockers picking up their only wins in the final two singles slots. At No. 1, KSU's Viviana Yrureta defeated No. 77 Stephanie Dalmacio in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, while KSU's Vanessa Cottin took the No. 2 point in a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Anna Egorova. In the No. 3 singles match, Torrie Browning gave Katarina Kudlackova a run for her money, but fell in a three-set decision, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Wildcats picked up their final win in a hotly-contested No. 4 singles match when Natasha Vieira defeated Florentina Hanisch 7-6 (4), 7-5.

Wichita State's two points came from Lenore Lazaroiu and Laryssa Ferreira in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively. Lazaroiu defeated Antea Huljev 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 5, while Ferreira downed Olga Klimova 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).

With the loss, the Shockers fall to 0-2 on the season. They will continue a week of Big 12 competition Friday when they host the Oklahoma Sooners. The dual match will be held at Crestview Country Club with the first serve slated for 5 p.m.
