Alex Johnson

Alex Johnson has been with Wichita State Athletics since October 2009 and serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Development and Revenue Generation.

Johnson oversees the Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization (SASO), major gifts, coaches club, stewardship, donor relations and capital campaign fundraising initiatives. He also provides sport oversight in his role as sport administrator for volleyball and men’s and women's golf programs.

Johnson and his staff led the fundraising efforts to secure funding for the $14 million Charles Koch Arena renovation and expansion of a new Student-Athlete Center, along with a $3 million effort to complete the Eck Stadium - Phase V facility project. His responsibilities also include supervision and solicitation of $5.7 million in contributions for the Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization, which provides academic support for more than 300 student-athletes at Wichita State. Additionally, Johnson oversees all contractual agreements and donor membership support within all gameday hospitality areas.

He began his career in intercollegiate athletics as a development intern at Wichita State in 2009, before serving two years as a graduate assistant in athletic development. As an intern and graduate assistant, Johnson assisted in the restructure of Wichita State Athletics’ Priority Point System, conception of a Select-a-Seat for season ticket holders which has produced over 300 new season ticket accounts within ticketed sports at Wichita State and conducted the redesign of the annual fund scholarship website www.wsusaso.com. He developed and implemented the Recent Graduate Program, which has produced over 230 new season ticket sales within all ticketed sports at Wichita State. Prior to Wichita State, Johnson served as a membership and customer service manager along with the role of sport site supervisor at the Andover YMCA.

In 2017, he was named to the WSU President’s Diversity Council (PDC) and served on the council as the division liaison for the athletic department. Johnson was also appointed as the co-chair for the PDC’s Retention and Engagement of Diverse Groups committee, which focuses on creating an engaged campus climate where diverse faculty, staff and students feel welcomed and included. He also serves on the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission Board of Directors and was previously a member of the Advisory Board for the Greater Wichita YMCA.

A native of Wichita, Kan., Johnson graduated Summa Cum Laude with degrees from both Butler Community College and Wichita State University (B.S., M.Ed., Sport Management).

He resides in Wichita with his wife, Krissy and daughters, Kensington, Kylee and Kyndall.
