Sean Carter

Sean Carter enters his ninth season as a coach for the Shockers in 2022 and his sixth as associate head coach after being promoted to the role in the spring of 2017. He came to WSU after serving as an assistant coach at The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, Calif., from 2012-13.

In his eight seasons, he has helped guide the Shockers to three NCAA Tournament appearances and a National Invitational Volleyball Championship appearance (NIVC), one American Athletic Conference regular-season title, one Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title, and two MVC Tournament titles. He has also coached four All-Americans (Abbie Lehman, Katie Reilly, Jody Larson, Tabitha Brown) during that span and led the Shockers to a 151-86 overall record.

While at The Master’s, he helped the Lady Mustangs to two NAIA National Tournament appearances and a NAIA National Quarterfinals appearance in 2013. He also coached two-time All-American Sam Dougherty and 2012 NAIA Freshman of the Year Aubrey Bekendam.

At The Master’s, he did on floor coaching, individual training of all positions, scouting of opponents, practice design and management, recruiting and served as the liaison between the facility and event manager. He was also the director of the summer volleyball camps.

From 2009-12, he was the manager for the University of Arizona volleyball program. During his time with the Wildcats, he was responsible for assisting the head coach and assistant coaches with training exercises, setting up and taking down all video scouting equipment and all volleyball equipment, running the Data Volley Program, oversight of volunteer managers and doing inventory of all volleyball equipment.

From 2012-14, he was the head coach for the Legacy Volleyball Club in Valencia, Calif. During his time with Legacy, he was in charge of practice design and management, on floor coaching, individual private training and was the liaison between the club athletes and college recruiters.

From 2010-12, he also was the head coach for Volleyball Club Dinamo in Tucson, Ariz.

Carter earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology in May 2012 from the University of Arizona.

While at Arizona, Carter was the starting setter and team captain for the University of Arizona men’s club volleyball team from 2009-11. In 2010, he was the starting libero for 2nd City Premiere that won the USA Volleyball Adult Nationals open division and from 2006-08, he was the starting libero for Cal State Northridge. He was also a member of the Synergy Volleyball Club from 2003-06.
