Mike Steele is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Wichita State volleyball program.
Steele began playing volleyball in 1978, playing in USAV tournaments. He was a collegiate volleyball official for more than 20 years, and has coached club volleyball in Wichita for many years. Steele still competes in senior volleyball events.
Outside of volleyball, Steele worked for the Wichita Fire Department for over 33 years, retiring as a Battalion Chief in 2009.
He and his wife, Janet, have two children, Amy Tener and Dale Steele, and a granddaughter, Loren, and have two more grandchildren on the way.
