Weston Pletcher is starting his 12th year at Wichita State in 2025-26 and third as Director of Communications after being promoted from Assistant Director in June of 2023.
Pletcher serves as primary media contact for the Shocker men's basketball and softball teams, while overseeing day-to-day operations within the Communications arm of WSU's Strategic Communications and Marketing unit. He is also responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of the official Wichita State Athletics website, GoShockers.com.
As men's basketball and softball contact, Pletcher works closely with the coaching staff and student-athletes, as well as members of the local and national media, managing media-related activities on basketball game days and throughout the week, fielding interview requests for coaches and student-athletes while serving as a source for statistical information and historical records. Additionally, he oversees all social media efforts for the @GoShockersMBB and @GoShockersSB Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts.
In July 2025, Pletcher captained the "Koch Heads" on an undefeated run to capture a championship in the inaugural Wichita State ICAA Staff Kickball Tournament.
ExtraInning Softball recognized Pletcher as the 2022 Best Social Media Award winner among all DI softball Sports Information Directors and Creatives.
From 2017-23, he handled communication efforts for the Wichita State women's basketball, softball and women's golf teams.
During his first three years at Wichita State, Pletcher served as an Assistant Director of New Media. In that role he coordinated Wichita State's television deal - The Valley on ESPN3, assisted in Wichita State's social media coverage, while also overseeing GoShockers.com.
Prior to Wichita State, he spent a year as a Media Relations Assistant at the University of Kentucky. While with the Wildcats, Pletcher was the secondary contact for the women’s basketball team and the primary contact for the men’s and women’s golf teams.
He wrote releases, feature stories, notes and recaps for the website and managed the teams’ social media presence on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Before his stint at UK, he served as an intern at Vanderbilt and a student assistant at the University of Kansas.
At Vanderbilt, he was the primary communications contact for swimming and men's and women's tennis. Pletcher and the Vandy communications staff were named one of the "Super 11" sports information departments during the 2012 NCAA football season by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
As a student assistant in the KU media relations office, Pletcher oversaw the women's rowing team during his final year, while also handling a majority of the publicity for Kansas men's basketball National Player of the Year candidate Thomas Robinson. He also has a background in broadcasting, as he was a student broadcaster for Kansas football and men’s and women’s basketball games during his time at KU.
Pletcher, a native of Rosalia, Kan., earned an associate’s degree in mass communications from Butler Community College in 2008 and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kansas in 2011. He is also a member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC), USBWA (U.S. Basketball Writers Association) and National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).
He resides in Wichita with his wife, Lyndsay and two children, Payne and Pryor.
