Erica Yancey enters her fifth season as the Director of Operations for women's basketball, her first on head coach Terry Nooner's staff.
As the Director of Operations at Wichita State, Yancey is responsible for the program's internal operations, including budgetary matters, team travel duties, meals, camps, team calendar and practice schedules, while continuing to assist with on-campus visits from recruits and other operational duties.
Yancey began her coaching career as the assistant women's basketball coach at MCC - Penn Valley (Mo.) in 2007. During that time, she also assisted with training youth in the Kansas City area.
A former player at UTEP from 2004-06, Yancey received honors for the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll (2005-06), Western Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference (2004-05) and Western Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Award (2004-05). While playing for Penn Valley Community College (Mo.) (2002-04), Yancey was selected to the NJCAA Division II All-America second team and was a finalist for the WBCA/Kodak All-America team as a sophomore. She garnered NJCAA All-Region 16 honors and was named Penn Valley's Most Valuable Player as well.
In 2003-04, she ranked 12th in the NJCAA in scoring, averaging 19.7 points per game. Yancey chipped in 7.7 rebounds (245), 3.3 steals (106) and 2.7 assists (85) in 32 games as a sophomore. She also shot 43.7 percent (210-481) from the floor, 41.5 percent (83-200) from outside and 84.8 percent (128-151) from the free throw line. Penn Valley finished 21-11 in 2003-04, advanced to the national tournament and ranked 14th in the final NJCAA Division II poll. As a freshman, Yancey averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 30 games. She led the team by shooting 38.4 percent (28-73) from three-point range.
A Kansas City, Mo., native, Yancey attended St. Teresa's Academy where she was a three-year letterwinner. She received her associate’s degree in arts (2004), bachelor's degree in business administration - management from UTEP (2007) and a master’s degree in human resource management from Brenau University (2020).
Yancey and her spouse, Walter, reside in Wichita, Kan., with their daughter Mikayla.
