Bill Damuth begins his first year on staff as an assistant coach for Wichita State.
He comes to Wichita after seven seasons with head coach Keitha Adams at UTEP. He was an integral part of the Miners' success, helping them post an average record of 22-10 in that time frame.
UTEP won 20+ games in four of the seven seasons since Damuth arrived in the Sun City. UTEP also claimed three league championships (2016 C-USA regular season, 2012 C-USA regular season and conference tournament and 2008 C-USA regular season) and made a trio of postseason bids (2012 NCAA, 2016 WNIT and 2014 WNIT) in that timeframe.
The Miners put together one of the finest years in program history in 2015-16. The Miners equaled the school record for wins (29), took home the 2016 C-USA regular-season championship (16-2) and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 WNIT.
In 2012-13 UTEP finished 22-10 and advanced to the 2013 Conference USA Semifinals in spite of having lost three key players to torn ACLs.
The effort came on the heels of the historic 2011-12 season. The Miners set a school record for wins (29) while winning both the 2012 Conference USA regular-season and tournament championship.
In his first year in the Sun City Damuth, who was tabbed an assistant coach on June 3, 2010, aided the Miners in forging a 16-14 mark.
Damuth ventured to El Paso from Trinity Valley Community College. He was the head coach for the Lady Cards in 2009-10, leading them to a mark of 28-6. He assumed the position after a three-year stretch in his second tenure at the college as an assistant coach.
Overall the team compiled a remarkable record of 297-48, won three national titles, grabbed runner-up honors twice while making eight national tournament appearances. The squad claimed eight region titles and nine conference crowns.
He mentored 11 Kodak All-Americans, including three National Players of the Year, and 31 division I signees. Furthermore, six players went on to compete in the WNBA.
Following the conclusion of the 1999-2000 campaign, Damuth left TVCC after six years to become the head coach at Hill College. He inherited a 6-24 team and proceeded to forge a record of 51-12 in two years.
In his first year on the sideline, Hill stormed out of the gates at 14-0 and finished with a mark of 28-3. The squad was ranked as high as 14th nationally, claimed the conference title and Damuth was voted as the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference's Coach of the Year.
The ensuing year Hill registered a record of 22-9, and secured a second-place showing in league play.
Damuth then left Hill to take an assistant coach position with the women's basketball team at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. He served as the program's recruiting coordinator, and ULL experienced plenty of success.
A conference crown, two second-place outcomes and the school's initial appearance in the NCAA Tournament were among the accomplishments during his tenure.
He spent four years at ULL before returning to TVCC in 2006.
Damuth is a native of Martins Mill, Texas. He received his bachelor's of science and history degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1995. He earned his master's degree in sports science and management from the United States Sports Academy in 1998.
He and wife Michelle have a son and daughter - Dylan, 14, and Madison, eight.
