Biography

Lefty combo guard… Former Kansas Mr. Basketball returned to Wichita in the summer of 2022 after two seasons at Drexel… A hard-hat guy… Intelligent and intuitive player who’s always in the right spot… Son of former WSU football player Wayne Bell… Named after his father’s former classmate, Xavier McDaniel… The third former Kansas Mr. Basketball to play for the Shockers, joining Gaylon Nickerson (1988) and Ryan Herrs (1992).

2024-25 (Senior):
American Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year... Named to the Fall and Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Became the 49th Shocker to score 1,000 career points... Converted 88.8% of his free throw attempts, 7th highest in school history for a single season... Left with the 6th highest career free throw percentage (83.0%)... Led the team in scoring (15.2 ppg)... Played in all 34 games, making 23 starts... Scored 10 or more points in 27 of the team's 34 games, including a team-high eight games of 20 or more points... First Team All-Conference selection... Poured in a game-high 24 points in the NIT first round game at Oklahoma State (March 18)... Tallied 10 points and 3 rebounds on Senior Day vs. Tulsa (March 9)... Scored 17 of his 19 points at North Texas (March 3) after halftime... Named American Player of the Week on Feb. 24 after averaging 23.5 points in wins over FAU and Tulane... Four games with 20 or more points... Named to the Fall and Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Scored all 14 of his points in the second half vs. UAB in the AAC quarterfinals (Mar. 15)... Dished out a career-high 6 assists vs. Rice (Mar. 13) in the first round of the AAC Championship... Chipped in 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in a road win at UAB (Feb. 28)... Scored 13 of his game-high 17 points after halftime vs. Temple (Feb. 25)... Career high four steals vs. Tulsa (Feb. 21)... Team-high 16 points at Charlotte (Feb. 18)... Poured in 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals on Coastal Carolina (Nov. 16) in the Myrtle Beach Invitational opener... Set a then career high with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting vs. Friends (Nov. 12)... Tied a then career high with 14 points vs. WKU (Nov. 9) and set career highs in free throws made (8) and attempted (10)... Dished out a career-high five assists in the season opener vs. Lipscomb (Nov. 6) to go with 12 points.

2022-23 (Sophomore):
American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team... Named to the Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Shooting guard saw time in 31 games and logged nine starts in his first season as a Shocker… Averaged 4.0 points in 14.6 minutes… Shot 50% from inside the arc (35/70) and 75% from the free throw line (15/20)… Made just 22.8% of his threes (13/57) but regained his stroke over the final month of the season, connecting on 6-of-12 in the last 10 games… Scored in double-figures four times, including a season-high 14 in a Hall of Fame Classic semifinal win over Grand Canyon in Kansas City (Nov. 21)… Scored 12 points in 19 minutes during an overtime game against Missouri (Nov. 29)… Scored all 10 of his points in the second half to help the Shockers erase a 14-point halftime deficit against Tulsa (Nov. 14)… Made both of his three-point attempts and was 3-of-3 from the field in an eight-point performance at No. 1-ranked Houston (Mar. 2)…  Closed out the regular season with 11 points on 2-of-3 three-point shooting in a win over South Florida (Mar. 5).
 
At Drexel (2020-22):
Played two seasons at Drexel University in Philadelphia and helped the Dragons to a 2021 NCAA tournament appearance… Was the team’s second-leading scorer in 2021-22, averaging 11.0 points in 26.1 minutes while starting 25 of the 28 games… Shot over 49% from the field… Career 37.5% three-point shooter, knocked down 20-of-47 attempts (.426) against conference foes in 2022… Posted 20 double-figure scoring games as a Dragon, highlighted by a career-high 30-point performance against Hofstra on Jan. 17, 2022 in which he made 13-of-17 field goal attempts…  Was voted the program’s “Most Improve Player” as a true freshman in 2020-21, after sparking the Dragons to the CAA tournament title as a No. 6 seed… Averaged four points for the season but put up 8.1-per-game over the final seven contests after joining the starting lineup… Capped his rookie year with three-straight double-figure outings, including 11 points-each in the CAA semifinal and championship games, and 12 in the team’s NCAA tournament opener against Illinois…. Named to the 2021 CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

High School:
Two-sport standout at Andover Central High School was first team all-state in both football and basketball as a senior in 2019-20… Named “Mr. Basketball” by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and  “Kansas Player of the Year” by MaxPreps… Also a 2020 McDonald’s All-American nominee… Tallied 1,710 career points for the Jaguars and led them to the 2019 Class 5A state title as a junior… Logged another state tournament trip as a senior when he averaged 24.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists along with first team All-Class 5A statys… As a wide receiver on the football team, caught 71 passes for 975 yards during his senior year for a team that reached the 5A state title game… Named Top-33 in Kansas by the Topeka Capital Journal, All-Metro Top-11 by the Wichita Eagle and AVCTL-II Offensive Player of the Year while earning a spot in the Kansas Shrine Bowl.

Born Apr. 4, 2002... Son of Wayne Bell and Stephanie Mitchell… Youngest of six children…Older sister, Ashley, played basketball at Drury University... Favorite athlete is three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year, Jamal Crawford because of his disciplined approach to basketball and focus on doing the little things day in and day out... Studying Business Administration at WSU.
