Wilber is in his first season as assistant coach and catching coach after joining the Shockers on August 6, 2025.
Wilber comes to Wichita State after one season at Sonoma State, where he served as assistant coach under Jacob Garsez for the 2025 season. The native of Yorktown, Virginia worked previously as hitting and catching coach at Sacramento City College, plus two seasons as a development coach in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. While a member of the Pirates minor league system at High-A Greensboro, Wilber worked with catchers Henry Davis, Logan Porter and Endy Rodriguez, who all went on to make their Major League debuts during the 2023 season.
Wilber played collegiately at Christopher Newport University (2013-14) and The Apprentice School (2015-16) before beginning his coaching career as an assistant at Grafton High School in his hometown of Yorktown. He later broke into the college ranks with stops at Eastern Michigan (2018) and Concordia University Ann Arbor (2019), then took over the role of Director of Player Development at Inspiration Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he stayed until joining the Pirates in 2022. Wilber also served as the bullpen and catching coach for the Chatham Anglers of the prestigious Cape Cod League for the 2024 season.
