Biography

Career Summary (2018-20):
Walk-on guard spent two years in the WSU program before landing on a scholarship at Division II Metro State University in Colorado... Took a redshirt in 2018-19 and saw time in eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2019-20... Two-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team (3.00+ GPA for the school year)... Former three-sport standout from rural Northwest Kansas led the state in scoring as a senior (28.2) at Class 2A St. Francis High School.

2019-20 (Redshirt Freshman):
Logged time in eight games and totaled three points and three rebounds in 13 minutes of action... Made a free throw and grabbed a rebound in two minutes against Tulane (Feb. 16)... Logged two December appearances, totaling four minutes against Abilene Christian (Dec. 29) and Central Arkansas (Dec. 5)... Against UCA, scored his first collegiate basket and also snagged two rebounds... Saw time in four November games... Made his Shocker debut in the season-opener against Omaha (Nov. 5).
 
2018-19 (Freshman):
Practiced with the team and occasionally traveled but did not see game action while acclimating to college basketball.
 
High School:
All-time leading scorer at St. Francis High School with more than 1,700 career points… Led the state in scoring as a senior at 28.2 points per game and averaged nearly five three-pointers per game… First Team All-State selection in Class 2A in both 2017 and 2018 after earning second team honors as a sophomore… Graduated with a 3.85 GPA… Earned all-league honors in all four seasons… Three-sport standout who was selected for the Kansas Shrine Bowl in football and helped St. Francis to state track & field titles in the 4x100 and 4x400 (twice)… 2A state runner-up in the 800 as a senior with a PR of 1:58… Made an impression on Jay Bilas while attending one of his summer camps. The ESPN analyst gave Busse a twitter shoutout following his WSU commitment and in a followup interview with The Wichita Eagle said: “Tate is a really good athlete and a terrific player. Tough, skilled, competitive. He’s a great teammate and a hard worker. I was really impressed with him, on and off the floor.”

Born April 18, 2000… Son of Cory and Jenny Busse… Last name rhymes with “fussy”… Mother ran track at Kansas State… Father is a farmer… Has two younger siblings, Ben and Cassidy… Enjoys hunting and fishing… Hometown of St. Francis – located in far Northwest Kansas near the Colorado and Nebraska borders -- has a population of just 1,300 (roughly a third the size of former Shocker Ron Baker’s home town of Scott City)… Turned down scholarship offers from Division II Fort Hays State and several JUCOs to walk on at WSU.... Majoring in General Business.
