WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State Athletics was well represented at the 28th annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet, as current and former Shockers were recognized for excellence both on and off the field.
Five members of the Shocker family received some of the evening's highest honors, highlighted by Wichita State softball standout Kinzey Woody and men's basketball standout Kenyon Giles earning the event's top collegiate athlete awards.
Freshman sensation Kinzey Woody was named the College Female Athlete of the Year following one of the most decorated debut seasons in Wichita State softball history.
Woody was previously recognized as the American Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year while also earning Freshman All-America honors from both D1 Softball and Softball America after helping lead the Shockers to a standout 2026 campaign.
Kenyon Giles received College Male Athlete of the Year honors after delivering one of the greatest shooting seasons in Wichita State men's basketball history.
The senior guard helped lead the Shockers to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) while earning First Team All-Conference honors from the American, a spot on the American All-Newcomer Team and American Conference All-Tournament Team recognition.
Giles also established Wichita State single season records for three-pointers made, three-pointers made per game and three-point attempts per game.
Longtime Wichita State volleyball head coach Chris Lamb was inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing one of the most successful coaching careers in Shocker history.
During 27 seasons leading the program, Lamb has compiled a 545-261 record while guiding Wichita State to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances and 11 conference championships across the Missouri Valley Conference and American Conference.
Among his many accomplishments were a Sweet 16 appearance in 2012, an undefeated 20-0 conference season in 2017Â and the 2024 American Athletic Conference championship.
Former Shocker baseball standout Shane Dennis was also inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame.
Dennis starred on the mound for Wichita State from 1991-94, helping lead the Shockers to three College World Series appearances, including a trip to the championship series. He remains among the program's all-time leaders in ERA, starts, strikeouts and innings pitched.
Following his playing career, Dennis became one of Wichita's most recognizable sports broadcasters, serving as a longtime voice of Wichita State baseball and basketball while contributing to the city's sports media landscape for decades.
Legendary Wichita State baseball coach and administrator Brent Kemnitz received the Excellence in Sports Award, honoring nearly five decades of service to Wichita State Athletics.
Kemnitz is set to retire on June 30 after a remarkable 48-year career that included 38 seasons as the Shockers' pitching coach and 10 years on the athletic department's development staff.
During his coaching tenure, Kemnitz helped Wichita State reach seven College World Series, capture the 1989 national championship and develop nine first-round Major League Baseball Draft selections. In his development role, he has played an instrumental part in fundraising efforts for several key department initiatives and projects.
The annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet celebrates outstanding achievements across the Wichita sports community while recognizing athletes, coaches and contributors whose accomplishments have made a lasting impact on sports throughout the region.
