WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State student-athletes set a new school record for cumulative grade-point average in an academic year (3.507 GPA) for the 2025-26 season, while posting the third highest semester GPA with a 3.504 during the Spring 2026 semester. It was also the 42nd-consecutive semester of earning higher than a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average department wide.

In August of 2022, Wichita State Athletics established a bold and aggressive set of five-year strategic objectives pertaining to academics, community service, and competitive excellence.  Academically – beginning the Fall of 2022 semester and concluding the Spring of 2027 semester – Wichita State Athletics aspires to achieve:

1. A department wide GPA of 3.0 all 10 semesters (8 of 10 achieved)
2. A department wide GPA of 3.3 five out of 10 semesters (8 achieved)
3. A department wide GPA of 3.4 once in 10 semesters, having never achieved prior (6 achieved)

"This year-long record-breaking achievement speaks to the culture our student-athletes, coaches and staff have built together—one that values excellence in the classroom as much as service in the community and competitive excellence," said Director of Athletics Kevin Saal.
 
Of the 220 student-athletes on the honor roll (above a 3.0), 55 earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, while 163 were named to the Dean's List (3.5 GPA) and 206 were named Shocker Scholars (3.2 GPA). Eighty-three percent of student-athletes were above a 3.0 GPA. Women's Basketball, Women's Golf and Softball all recorded their highest ever semester GPA in the Spring of 2026.
 
"Behind every GPA is a student-athlete balancing the demands of sport, academics and life, and this milestone is a testament to their work, along with the comprehensive support surrounding them," Saal said. "From our academic services staff to our coaches and campus partners, this is a shared success that reinforces our commitment to developing the whole student-athlete."
