Three Shockers Selected for Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State will be well represented in the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Greg Brummett, Maurice Evans and Mike Kennedy will all be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony in July.

Brummett (1986-89) helped lead the Shockers to the 1989 National Championship, while earning College World Series MVP honors. His record-tying three victories led the Shockers to their first national championship. He led the nation with 18 wins and had career totals of 43 wins in 59 starts, covering 424 innings (with 364 strikeouts). 

Evans (1997-99) played two seasons at Wichita State before transferring to Texas. As a sophomore he averaged 22.6 points and 4.5 rebounds. Evans finished his Wichita State career with 1,007 points in only 59 games, tying for the fifth fastest Shocker to reach 1,000 points. His 632 points as a sophomore are fifth most in a single season.

Kennedy (1980-26) announced his retirement after the conclusion of this academic year. Kennedy has served the previous 46 years as the Voice of the Shockers. He is a two-time Kansas Broadcaster of the Year. Prior to Wichita State, Kennedy also broadcast at Chanute High School and Pittsburg State University. He graduated from Wichita Southeast High School and Wichita State. At one point in his career, he broadcast 1,400 consecutive basketball games.

The trio of Shockers will be inducted in Wichita on Saturday, July 25 at the Kansas Star Casino.

The Class of 2026 consists of 32 individuals, including 12 posthumous honorees, making it the largest class ever to be inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.
