LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas bullpen combined for seven scoreless innings to fend off Wichita State 5-2 on Tuesday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
 
After Kansas (27-10) grabbed two runs in the first via a two-run homer from Tyson LeBlanc, the Shockers (23-15) answered back with a two-out, two-run single from Jacob Gutierrez to pull even at 2-2.
 
That was all the offense that Wichita State could muster, as the combination of Madden Seidl, Toby Scheidt, Riane Ritter and Boede Rahe blanked the Shockers on just two hits the rest of the way. Seidl (3-1) did the heavy lifting with four scoreless innings, striking out four while walking just one. Rahe snagged his fourth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
 
The Jayhawks were able to retake the lead when LeBlanc homered again in the top of the third, then added single runs in the sixth and eighth for the final margin.
 
WSU starter Reese Kortum (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing six hits and three runs in two-plus innings of work. Wichita State's bullpen also put together a strong showing, as Amar Tsengeg, Heitaro Hayashi, Caleb Reed and Brady Pacha conceded just two runs (one earned) over the last six frames.
 
Wichita State got single hits from Gutierrez, Owen Washburn, Jack Quick, Jayson Jones and Alex Ulloa.
 
The Shockers are back in action on Friday night against East Carolina. First pitch of the series opener is scheduled for 5:00 pm CT.
