4/13/2026 6:34:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. — Riding a 17-match winning streak, the Wichita State women's tennis team has earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming American Conference Championship.

With the American Conference not playing a full dual-match schedule, seeding is determined by team ITA rankings. The Shockers are the highest-ranked team in the conference at No. 28.

Wichita State went a perfect 6-0 in the regular season against American Athletic Conference opponents, defeating UTSA, Rice, South Florida, Tulsa, Tulane and North Texas.

This marks Wichita State's first time as the No. 1 seed since joining the conference in 2018. The program's previous best seed was No. 3.

As a top-three seed, Wichita State earned a first-round bye and will advance directly to the quarterfinals.

The Shockers are 4-7 all-time at the American Conference Championship, reaching the semifinals in 2018.

Wichita State will face either No. 9 seed Temple or No. 8 seed UAB on Friday, April 17, at 10 a.m. CT at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.
