Shockers Win Sixth Straight, Defeat Kansas State 4-2

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Wichita State fought off a fierce test from Kansas State to win 4-2 on Friday at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

The Shockers (8-3) extended their winning streak to six matches with the victory over Kansas State (1-3). Wichita State has now defeated six Power Four teams during the 2026 season – its most wins over Power Conference foes since 2018.

"I'm really proud of the fight and composure we showed today at the end of this match," head coach Jacob Eddins said. "It wasn't easy, but this group stayed together in the big moments, and we were able to get another tough win on the road against another really tough opponent.

In doubles, Theodora Chantava and Kristina Kudryavtseva gave the Shockers the early advantage with a 6-1 win at No. 2.

Anne Knuettel and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 3. It was their third consecutive victory as a pair and their sixth win in the last seven matches.

In singles play, the teams split the first sets across the six courts.

Chantava prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 to improve to a perfect 7-0 in dual matches this season and give the Shockers a 2-0 lead.

Kansas State got on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kudryavtseva at No. 4, and the Wildcats tied the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Knuettel at No. 6.

No. 109-ranked Giorgia Roselli put the Shockers back in front with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. Roselli overcame deficits of 3-0 in the first set and 3-1 in the second to secure the straight-sets victory.

With only Vimuktananda and Xin Tong Wang remaining on court, Wang delivered the clinch for the Shockers. It was her first win since Jan. 24 against Long Beach State.

Wang's match featured major momentum swings. She led 5-1 in the first set before her opponent rallied to win five straight games and take a 6-5 lead. Wang responded by winning the next game to force a tiebreak, then claimed the tiebreak 7-5 to take the set.

In the second set, Wang trailed 4-1 but again rallied — this time winning five straight games to close out the 6-4 set and clinch the match for Wichita State.

"This team is playing great tennis right now," Eddins said. "We are excited for the opportunity to play against a conference opponent on Sunday at home in front of our fans."
