WICHITA, Kan. – Longtime Wichita State broadcaster Mike Kennedy has been honored with the National Sports Media Association Kansas Sportscaster of the Year award.

Kennedy, the legendary play-by-play Voice of the Shockers, will retire at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, marking the close of a historic 46-year broadcasting career with the program.

During 2025, Kennedy broadcast men's basketball and baseball games on the radio for the Shockers and volleyball matches on ESPN+.

Kennedy also won the award in 2014.

The National Sports Media Association, Inc. (NSMA) is an organization of nearly 1,000 members that honors excellence in the industry, while passing along knowledge and history through the generations.

Each year, NSMA members in each state (49 States, plus the District of Columbia) elect a State Sportscaster of the Year and State Sportswriter of the Year, a National Sportscaster of the Year and National Sportswriter of the Year, and Hall of Fame inductees.
