OMAHA, Neb. – Wichita State recorded five singles victories to take down the Omaha Mavericks on Saturday at Miracle Hill Tennis Center, 5-2.

The Shockers (2-4) remained perfect all-time against Omaha (0-3) with the victory and won the first matchup between the teams away from Wichita.

Omaha took the early lead in doubles at courts one and two and capitalized with a 6-3 win at No. 2 over
Luke Bracks and
Amir Milushev.Â

At No. 3,
Zaid Al Mashni and
Pablo Roche Alcaya withstood a late comeback attempt to close out the court 6-3, sending the doubles point to be decided at No. 1.

Ilias Worthington and
Alejandro Jacome battled fiercely, rallying from 5-4 and 6-5 deficits to force a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, the score remained tight throughout, but the Mavericks prevailed 7-5 to clinch the doubles point.

Wichita State responded in singles, winning five of six first sets to regain momentum.

Bracks bounced back from his doubles defeat to win 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, tying the match at 1-1.

Eight minutes later, Roche Alcaya earned his second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 4, giving the Shockers a 2-1 lead.

Moments later, Jacome moved the Shockers within one point of victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3.

Worthington clinched the match with a narrow 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1, snapping a three-match singles losing streak to give the Shockers a 4-1 advantage.

Playing the match out, Al Mashni suffered his first singles defeat of the spring, falling 3-6, 7-6 (7), 1-0 (6) in a super tiebreak at No. 2 singles.

Rodrigo Cruz closed out the day with a 3-6, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (8) win at No. 6, his second collegiate singles victory.Â
