WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State men's basketball added a familiar face to the program with the signing of forward Dillon Battie from Temple.
Battie, a Dallas, Texas, native will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after completing his freshman season in 2024-25 for the Temple Owls. Recruited out of high school by Wichita State head coach
Paul Mills, Battie is no stranger to the Shocker coaching staff. As a forward, he measures 6-foot-8, 210 pounds.
"I've had the privilege of being able to follow Dillon's journey since he was a young kid," Mills said. "I watched him win a state championship and be named Texas Player of the Year during his senior season at Lancaster High. He has elite acceleration, great length, can defend multiple positions, rebound outside of his area and has a passion for the work that's required to be a great player. He comes from a rich basketball family and has been coached well during his career so his adjustment to our style of play will be minimal."
As a true freshman for the Owls, Battie appeared in 20 games, making one start against South Florida on Feb. 26. In limited action, he averagd 3.6 points and 1.8 rebounds on 68.3 percent shooting from the field. He was named the American Freshman of the Week after recording a season-high 16 points (5-7 FG, 6-8 FT) and eight rebounds against Monmouth.
Battie was named the Texas 5A Player of the Year as a senior at Lancaster High School, where he led the Tigers to a state championship during his senior season. He scored 17 points, pulled down 19 rebounds and dished out four assists in the title game.
He is the son of Derrick Battie, a four-year standout for the Owls, who appeared in four NCAA Tournaments and helped Temple reach the Elite Eight in 1993. His uncle, Tony Battie, was the fifth-overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft and went on to play 14 seasons in the NBA.
