Shockers Squander Late Lead at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to erase a 4-2 deficit on the way to an 8-4 win over Wichita State on Friday night at FAU Baseball Stadium.

Wichita State pitchers combined to issue three walks and hit a batter in the fateful seventh inning, setting the stage for a two-out, go-ahead grand slam from Patrick Ward that proved to be the difference. FAU closer MJ Bollinger closed out the game with two scoreless innings to secure his ninth save, retiring all six hitters he faced.

The Shockers took a lead into the late innings thanks to a pair of home runs. Jordan Rogers put Wichita State in front with a two-run blast in the top of the fifth and Josh Livingston extended the advantage to 4-2 with a solo blast in the top of the seventh. Camden Johnson originally got the Shockers on the board in the fifth with a game-tying RBI double.

Wichita State starter Aaron Arnold ended with a no-decision, allowing just one run on four hits over four innings. Florida Atlantic starter Tyler Murphy also settled for a no-decision, allowing eight hits and three runs in his five innings.

Reliever Zach Kilby (2-2) picked up the win, working two innings while conceding just the Livingston solo homer.

Jeremiah Arnett (0-2) took the loss for Wichita State, tagged for five runs while recording just two outs.

The Shockers and Owls conclude the series on Saturday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 am CT.
