BOCA RATON, Fla. – Wichita State lost game two of its conference-opening series to the No. 24 Florida Atlantic Owls, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at FAU Softball Stadium.
Â
After neither side threatened in the first inning, FAU got on the board in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
In the third, the Owls added a run on an RBI double to take a 2-0 lead. The Shockers got runners on in both the third and fifth innings but were unable to bring a runner home.
Â
In the bottom of the fifth, FAU worked the bases loaded via an error and two base hits with nobody out against Shocker reliever
Alex Aguilar, but were only able to score one run that came on another sacrifice fly to put the Owls up 3-0.
Â
In the sixth, the Shockers finally broke through with an RBI single from
Lauren Lucas, making it a 3-1 game and forcing an FAU pitching change.
Â
The Owls responded right back in the bottom half, scoring a run in wonky fashion to go back up by three runs heading into the seventh.
Â
In the seventh, the Shockers were unable to get anybody on base.
