WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team squeezed out a 4-3 win over the UT Arlington Mavericks on Wednesday afternoon at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

With the victory, the Shockers (9-9) have won four of their last five matches.

In doubles, the Mavericks struck first with a dominant 6-2 win over
Kristof Minarik and
Ilias Worthington at court two, but
Alejandro Jacome and
Arenui Luethi responded with a swift 6-3 win at court one, sending doubles to be decided at court three.

At line three,
Luke Bracks and
Vanja Hodzic battled to force a tiebreak, but ultimately fell 8-6, giving doubles to UTA.

In singles, things went much better for the hometown Shockers as they secured first-set wins on five of six singles courts.

The Shockers quickly took advantage of their first set victories with a 6-3, 6-4 win by
Amir Milushev at court five and a 6-2, 6-4 win by Minarik at court one giving the Shockers the lead quickly at 2-1.

Later, Worthington avenged his doubles loss with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win at court four, putting the Shockers up 3-1.

Hodzic would be the one to clinch the match, fighting off a tiebreak loss in his second set to win his match 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1 to secure the win for Wichita State.

Playing the match out, Jacome fell 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 at court two and
Zaid Al Mashni narrowly lost a ten-point tiebreak 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9), ending the match with a 4-3 score in favor of the Shockers.

Next up, the Shockers remain home to face Creighton on April 4.
