FORT WORTH, Texas -- Wichita State picked up eight wins over the first two days of qualifying but struggled through three defeats on Sunday on the way to a sixth-place finish at the Bulldog Classic at Cityview Lanes.

The Shockers (29-10) went 4-1 in each of the first two days against the nation's best teams, including wins over #1 Jacksonville State, #6 Arkansas State, #8 Sam Houston, and #9 Louisiana Tech. Wichita State's only two losses came against #11 Sacred Heart on Friday and #3 Vanderbilt on Saturday, as the Shockers finished qualifying fourth in total pinfall. Things did not go the Shockers way on Sunday, however, starting with an opening round 4-3 defeat to Sacred Heart in which WSU dropped the seventh and deciding game by a single pin. Wichita State suffered 4-2 losses in the subsequent matches to Vanderbilt and Louisiana Tech, settling for sixth.

Top-ranked Jacksonville State shook off four losses in qualifying to still finish at the top of the pinfall standings, then dominated three straight matches to claim the team title with wins over Arkansas State, Florida A&M and Arkansas State again. Vanderbilt knocked off Sacred Heart to snatch third place.

Individually, Ashtyn Woods earned a spot on the All-Tournament team with a 222.0 average that ranked fifth in the standings. Woods also produced Wichita State's top individual score of the tournament, logging a 264 against Alabama State. Grace Macak of Sacred Heart took home tournament MVP honors, posting a 239.6 average.

Paige Wagner (17th, 209.0 average) and Sara Duque Jimenez (18th, 208.6) also grabbed spots in the top 20. Morgan Kline (22nd, 202.8) was the other regular in the Shockers lineup, while Aleesha Oden averaged 201.25 in her four traditional matches.

Wichita State has a week off before their next competition, which will take them to the Colonial Lanes Classic in Harahan, Louisiana. The tournament begins Friday, November 21 and runs through Sunday, November 23 at Colonial Lanes.
