WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State outscored Milwaukee by 19 in the second half to get back in the win column Saturday night in Charles Koch Arena, downing the Panthers, 75-58.
Wichita State (4-1) trailed by two at halftime after a sluggish first 20 minutes. Offensively, the Shockers had just 28 points on 31.3 percent shooting and just 1-of-9 from beyond the arc. The second half was a much different story, as the Shockers outscored the Panthers, 47-28, on 53.6 percent shooting and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Kenyon Giles scord 18 of his game-high 24 points after halftime. He was 7-of-13 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range. He's scored 15 or more in all five games this season.
TJ Williams scored a career-high 15 points to go with eight rebounds.
Karon Boyd added 12 points and five boards.
Emmanuel Okorafor was the key contributor off the bench, going for a season-high 11 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes.
Wichita State dominated the glass, outrebounding the Panthers, 45-36.
Milwaukee (2-4) opened the game with confidence, building an 11-point first half lead behind sharp shot-making from Stevie Elam and Danilo Jovanovich. Elam scored eight early points and the Panthers hit four threes in the opening period.
The Shockers responded with a 9-0 run late in the half—highlighted by a Giles three and a soaring Okorafor dunk—to claw within two at the break.
But in the second half, Wichita State's pressure defense swung the momentum. The Panthers managed just 28 points after halftime and shot 2-of-12 from deep in the final 20 minutes.
Trailing 30-28 at halftime, Wichita State flipped the game with a 10–3 burst in the opening minutes of the second half. Giles drilled a pair of threes, and Boyd and Okorafor each converted inside during a stretch that saw the Shockers reclaim the lead for good.
The tide shifted for good at the 11:34 mark, when
Michael Gray Jr. buried a right-wing three, igniting a 7-0 Shocker run. Giles followed with two free throws and another transition three to push the margin to 54-46.
