Shockers End Regular-Season with 3-1 Win at Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Wichita State (18-10, 10-6) finished off the regular-season with a 3-1 win at Temple (16-15, 5-11). The Shockers won by scores of 25-15, 20-25, 26-24 and 25-17.
 
Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 21 kills, while Brooklyn Leggett added 14 kills. Jordan Heatherly had a double-double with 46 assists and 10 digs and Gabi Maas had a team-high 14 digs.
 
Temple got off to a quick start in the first set by grabbing a 9-6 lead. The Shockers used a 4-0 run to go in front 13-11 and pushed it to 20-14 after a service ace from Dunning. Back-to-back kills from Emerson Wilford put the Shocks up 22-14 and a Maddie Wilson kill gave WSU the 25-15 win.
 
The Owls raced out to a 7-2 advantage in the second set and pushed it to 14-6 after a 6-0 run. The Shockers cut it to 15-11 after a Maas service ace, but the Owls answered with a 3-0 run for an 18-11 lead. Allie Paulsen's solo block cut the lead to 23-19, but the Owls scored two of the final three points for the 25-20 win.
 
The Shockers started quick in the third set by grabbing a 6-2 lead after a kill by Leggett. The Owls used a 5-0 run to take a 10-8 lead, but two-straight service aces by Katie Galligan put the Shockers up 15-14. The two teams traded points until the Owls' 3-0 run put them in front 20-18. The Shockers used kills from Leggett and Dunning to take a 23-22 lead, but the Owls scored two-straight to reach set point at 24-23. The Shockers responded with three-straight to take the set 26-24.
 
An 8-1 Shocker run put WSU up 10-4 in the fourth set and a Grace Hett service ace increased the lead to 17-8. The Shockers reached set point 24-16 on a Temple service error and won the set 25-17 on a kill from Leggett.
 
The Shockers are next in action at the American Conference Championship, Nov. 21-23, in Tampa, Fla. The Shockers are the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 seed North Texas at 12:30 p.m. CT/1:30 p.m. ET on Fri., Nov. 21.
