Bowling Preview: Columbia 300 Saints Invite

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The #7-ranked Wichita State women's bowling team looks to continue their momentum from a strong start to the spring with a short trip to the Columbia 300 Saints Invite. Hosted by Maryville, the competition begins Friday, January 31 and concludes Sunday, February 2 at Shrewsbury Lanes in St. Louis, Mo.

After battling 38 teams at their most recent tournament in Delaware, the Shockers are one of just 15 squads at this week's competition and the highest-ranked team in the field.

The schedule of the tournament is as follows:
  • Friday - Five Baker matches starting at 10:35 AM CT
  • Saturday - Five traditional matches starting at 9:30 AM CT
  • Sunday - Three best-of-seven Baker matches starting at 8:30 AM CT to determine final placings

Friday (Baker format)
  • Match 1 vs. RV Newman (lanes 21-22)
  • Match 2 vs. Indianapolis (lanes 17-18)
  • Match 3 vs. Oklahoma Christian (lanes 7-8)
  • Match 4 vs. RV Central Missouri (lanes 19-20)
  • Match 5 vs. #13 McKendree (lanes 3-4)
Saturday (Traditional Format)
  • Match 6 vs. Lewis (lanes 15-16)
  • Match 7 vs. #9 Maryville (lanes 5-6)
  • Match 8 is a Bye, no opponent (lanes 21-22)
  • Match 9 vs. #16 Wisconsin-Whitewater (lanes 7-8)
  • Match 10 vs. #15 Tulane (lanes 17-18)

Baker matches are structured with five players combining to bowl one game, each bowling two frames. Player one bowls frames 1 and 6, player two bowls frames 2 and 7, player three bowls frames 3 and 8, player four bowls frames 4 and 9 and player 5 bowls frames 5 and 10. In traditional matches, five players each bowl an individual game, with all five games added together.

Wichita State is 33-18 through their first four tournaments of NCAA competition, not counting a title at the Mid-States Championships that is classified as an exhibition. The Shockers are coming off a sixth-place finish at the loaded Northeast Classic on January 17-19, going 11-2 with seven ranked wins. Freshman Morgan Kline led the Shockers with a 217.8 average in the traditional games, followed closely by sophomore Aleesha Oden (214.8).
