NEW CASTLE, Del. -- The #7-ranked Wichita State women's bowling team kicks off the spring portion of the schedule against a loaded field at the Northeast Classic. Hosted by Sacred Heart, the competition begins Friday, January 17 and concludes Sunday, January 19 at the Bowlerama in New Castle, Delaware.
The 38-team field includes all of the nation's top-10 teams in the latest NTCA Poll and 22 of the top 25 overall. It is the largest field in the history of NCAA Women's Bowling.

Baker matches are structured with five players combining to bowl one game, each bowling two frames. Player one bowls frames 1 and 6, player two bowls frames 2 and 7, player three bowls frames 3 and 8, player four bowls frames 4 and 9 and player 5 bowls frames 5 and 10. In traditional matches, five players each bowl an individual game, with all five games added together.
Wichita State is 22-16 through their first three tournaments of NCAA competition, not counting a title at the Mid-States Championships that is classified as an exhibition. The Shockers logged a second place finish at the season-opening Penguin Classic, sixth place at the SFA Ladyjack Classic and seventh at the Colonial Lanes Classic. Along the way, WSU picked up victories against some of the nation's top programs, including #1 Vanderbilt, #3 Nebraska, #4 Youngstown State, #6 Stephen F. Austin, #8 Sam Houston and #9 Maryville.
