LINCOLN, Neb. -- #14 Arizona State defeated Wichita State 25-19, 25-12, 25-13 on Thursday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Â
The Shockers (3-4) got out of the gates quickly, leading 15-13 following a
Morgan Stout kill. But the Sun Devils (7-0) scored eight of the next nine points to take control of the set despite a pair of WSU timeouts; the run reached 11-2 as the Sun Devils swelled their advantage to 24-17.
Maddie Wilson came off the bench to record her first Wichita State kill and followed with a block to stave off a pair of set points, but the Sun Devils Argentina Ung finished off the set with a kill.
Â
Wichita State did not threaten in the second or third sets as Arizona State took commanding early leads. It was 17-5 ASU in the second frame and 17-8 Sun Devils in the third, preventing the Shockers from stringing together a meaningful rally. Arizona State hit .429 in the second set and .519 in the third, holding WSU to .067 and .000 marks, respectively.
Â
Brooklyn Leggett led the Shockers with five kills, while
Gracie Morrow and
Morgan Stout notched four apiece.
Â
Bailey Miller recorded a match-high 13 terminations to lead Arizona State. The Sun Devils tacked on nine service aces and seven blocks to just two apiece for Wichita State.
Â
Wichita State continues the Nebraska Classic on Friday against Long Beach State. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
