Counting down 2023-24's top stories for Wichita State athletics:

CC Wong signed with Wichita State with little notice in August. Her junior season playing softball at Grand Canyon University consisted of 17 starts, a .288 batting average and no home runs.
Those numbers don't make sense to anyone who watched her play for the Shockers. Wong, from British Columbia, Canada, produced one of the best seasons in program history as a utility player. Her enthusiasm and gratitude made her one of the most popular Shockers.
Shocker coaches added Wong's success to their growing list of transfers who thrive and rediscover their love for the game.
"You go into the transfer portal and you don't know what's going to happen," Wong said. "They took a chance on me. I came in with nothing and they helped me see the potential. All props to them."
Wong hit .470 (second nationally) in 50 starts with 14 home runs and 14 doubles. She earned All-American honors from Softball America (first team), NFCA (second team) and DI Softball (second team). Softball America named her the nation's Most Improved Player.
Her AAC Player of the Year honor made her the fifth Shocker to win the award in six seasons.
In June, Softball Canada selected her as one of 21 athletes on the country's national team.
"Being able to play for my country is the biggest honor I could do," she said. "It means the world. I wouldn't be here without Wichita State."
