WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State opened the final weekend of the regular season with an 8-3 win over Memphis Friday night at Wilkins Stadium.
Wichita State (23-21, 14-11) extended its winning streak to 15 in a row over the Tigers on a night where seniors
CC Wong and
Lauren Howell were honored before the game as part of Senior Weekend.
Wong the proceeded to go 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBI.
Bailey Urban drove in two runs behind a pair of singles.
Addison Barnard singled, doubled and scored a run.
Sami Hood,
Lainee Brown,
Mila Seaton and
Krystin Nelson all recorded a hit apiece.
Chloe Barber earned her 8th win of the season in 4.0 innings of work. She struck out nine before exiting in the top of the fifth. After breezing through the first three innings, a two-run home run broke up the shutout in the fourth.
Alex Aguilar pitched the final 3.0 innings in relief, surrendering five hits and striking out three.
A four-run second inning broke it open for the Shockers. After Seaton's RBI single put the Shockers on top, 1-0, Wong promptly made it 4-0 on a monster three-run home run over the scoreboard in left.
Wichita State added a run in the third on a wild pitch and a run in the fourth on Urban's infield RBI single. Memphis cut into the lead with two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Taylor Sedlacek's RBI groundout and Urban's RBI single pushed the margin to five in the sixth.
