5/1/2024 1:30:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State women's tennis standout freshman, Xin Tong Wang, was named to the 2024 American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis All-Conference Team on Wednesday afternoon.

Wang becomes the just the fourth women's tennis AAC All-Conference selection for the Shockers since WSU joined the American in 2018, and she is the first to earn the honor since Fatima Bizhukova in 2019.

In her freshman season, Wang competed in almost every match for the Shockers in 2024, playing the entire season at the No. 1 or No. 2 position in both doubles and singles.

She amassed 27 total wins in dual matches, going 12-7 in singles and 15-5 in doubles. Her singles win total in dual matches tied for the team lead on the year with Theodora Chantava and her 15 doubles wins with partner Natsumi Kurahashi, led all Shockers. The 15 dual match doubles wins for the Wang/Kurahashi pairing is the most by any Shocker duo since Marta Bellucco and Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva won 15 doubles matches in the 2021 season.

Wang's 27 dual match wins on the year ties the most wins in a season by any Shocker since 2018, matching Giulia Guidetti's 27 dual wins in 2018.

In addition to being the first all-conference honoree for the women's tennis team since 2019, on March 19 of this year, she was the first Shocker to be named as AAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week since the 2021 season, when Saidhujaeva earned the honor on March 23, 2021.

Wang ended the season on a high note, winning 11 of her last 14 doubles match of the season, and she clinched the Shockers' victory in their opening round sweep of Tulsa in the AAC Championship with a win at No. 1 singles.
